Contemporary poets across the world, shaped by the experience of historical crises and the need for a transregional language to articulate the condition of modern humanity, have shown a particular inclination toward myth. From this perspective, T. S. Eliot regarded the mythic method as an appropriate means for analyzing the complexities of modern human experience in literature. George Seferis and Ahmad Shamloo are among the poets who have drawn upon this function of myth. Shamloo, owing to his familiarity with Greek culture and literature through translation, as well as to cultural and aesthetic affinities with Greek mythology-particularly within a Mediterranean horizon-can, from this vantage point, be meaningfully compared with Seferis. The present study seeks, through qualitative analysis, to reread the configuration of these two poets’ experiences within the discourse of myth. The findings indicate that Seferis employs myth as a means of confronting exile, historical rupture, and the reconstruction of Greek identity, whereas Shamloo utilizes the narrative texture of myth to articulate humanistic and social concerns. Ultimately, both poets draw upon myth to redefine the experience of modern humanity.
