Mirza Ahmad Dawashi, a Kurdish-language poet of ancient literary tradition, appears to engage with Khaghani’s Eyvan-e Madain in his poem Ba Sar Hati Ghalai Rookhau. A reader familiar with Persian literature can discern similarities between the two poems and recognize Dawashi’s reception of Khaghani’s influence.
Both Dawashi’s poem and Khaghani’s poem share themes, descriptions, contexts, and aims, which makes a comparative analysis feasible. By observing the ruins of the Taq Kasra and recalling Iran’s grand past, Khaghani admonishes his audience and warns them about the world’s perfidy. Dawashi likewise treats a ruined fortress and reveals the secret of its destruction and lost glory, thereby directing and cautioning his audience in his own manner.
In this essay, using a comparative-analytic approach within the framework of the French school of literary studies—emphasizing influence and intertextual resonance—we investigate the shared aspects of Khaghani’s Eyvan-e Madain and Dawashi’s Ba Sar Hati Ghalai Rookhau.
