The tragedy of Rostam and Sohrab has predominantly been analyzed through the lens of characters and human actions, while the role of “objects” as silent yet decisive actants in engineering the fate has been overlooked Despite extensive semiotic studies on the Shahnameh, the lack of a systematic reading of the dialectic of objects based on Gilbert Durand’s “Anthropological Structures of the Imaginary” constitutes a distinct research gap The objective of this study is to elucidate the symbolic dynamism of objects and analyze their role in the formation of the catastrophe and the obstruction of recognition The research methodology is descriptive-analytical; data were extracted from the Shahnameh (Khaleghi-Motlagh edition) and classified/analyzed based on Durand’s “Diurnal” (separation and distinction) and “Nocturnal” (connection and reconciliation) regimes Findings indicate that over 60% of effective objects (such as the mace, armor, arrows, and Rokhsh) belong to the “Diurnal Regime” and the Diairetic logic, exercising absolute hegemony over the symbols of the “Nocturnal Regime” (such as the armband and the antidote/Noush-daru) The conclusion suggests that the tragedy is not merely the result of an individual error, but rather the outcome of the structural hegemony of “instruments of war” over “instruments of connection”; a condition where the “Armband” (symbol of identity and reconciliation) is buried beneath the hard layers of “Armor” (symbol of impermeability and combat), forcing the epic structure to impose the logic of separation over the logic of union.)
