The glass ceiling is a set of hidden yet powerful barriers that restrict women’s access to decision-making roles and influential positions. This study, aiming to examine the factors that create the glass ceiling and the ways in which this phenomenon is represented in two novels -Lady’s Final Game by Belqis Soleimani and Piraye: A Girl from Istanbul by Jonathan Tan- seeks to answer the following question: What factors contribute to the formation of the glass ceiling in these two novels? The research method is descriptive-analytical. In both novels, an intersection of various obstacles and mechanisms produces and reinforces the glass ceiling. The most significant of these mechanisms is violence—psychological, emotional, and physical—which weakens women’s agency. Another contributing factor is patriarchal discourse, strengthened through social norms, institutions, and family relations, and often reinforced by the complicity of women against other women, particularly mothers and mothers-in-law, in sustaining gender norms. Understanding the glass ceiling in literature requires both social and rhetorical analysis, and such an integrative approach can provide a basis for cultural and educational interventions within comparative studies.
