Mystical journey possesses a special place in Persian and world literature, especially in the field of mystical literature. The present paper aimed to compare two works of world literature, including a famous work from English literature and a story in Persian. The Pilgrim’s Progress is a classical English novel written by John Bunyan and the story of Sheikh-Sana’n as a Persian poem composed by Attar. The paper focuses on the similarities and differences of the two works. Library resources and the content analysis method is used in this study. It is based on American School which focuses on text evidence and aesthetic-values of the works instead of dealing with historical evidence. The framework includes the seven stages of mystical journey mentioned in Attar’s Mantegh-al-tair, namely, quest, love, wisdom, detachment, unity, wonderment, poverty and annihilation. The findings suggested that almost all stages of mystical journeys in the works understudy were comparable. Despite some distinctive points, there are many similarity points between the two stories. Belonging to the field of religious literature and dealing with the common theme of “mystical journey” seem to be the reason behind the similarity of the two works. Features such as perfectionism, truth-seeking and common human spirit play a crucial role in the emergence of comparable works focusing on mystical journey.
